Warhaven Announces Closure After Four Months in Early Access
Nexon’s Warhaven has delivered the unfortunate news of its impending shutdown later this year, marking the end of its journey just four months after entering the early access phase in September.
The medieval fantasy PvP game initially piqued the interest of some enthusiasts who had high hopes for it, anticipating Warhaven to emerge as a standout title in 2023. Featuring hack-and-slash combat, the game offered a distinctive approach to the genre, setting itself apart from other melee-focused medieval titles such as Chivalry or For Honor. Its combat mechanics, characterized by simplicity and intuitiveness, catered to beginners while maintaining a high skill ceiling through nuanced techniques. Despite these promising aspects, Warhaven failed to gain traction post-launch and currently holds a Mixed rating of 58% on Steam. In a recent announcement, Nexon addressed the future of the game.

Nexon revealed that Warhaven is set to shut down on April 5, and sales of its battle pass have been suspended. The player count on Steam has steadily dwindled since its peak in January, reaching a mere 314 players. Although some medieval melee enthusiasts have moved on from the game, this news likely disappoints those who harbored hopes for Warhaven’s improvement over time. Nexon Korea, the subsidiary responsible for Warhaven’s development, is expected to redirect its focus towards other projects, such as Dynasty Warriors M, a recently launched mobile game featuring city building and combat, and MapleStory N, an MMORPG set in the beloved MapleStory universe that is currently in development.
Despite Nexon’s earlier comprehensive plans for Warhaven, including the pre-Season 1 content released in October, featuring the Soulsdance Festival event, new skins, and a Competition Mode, the game failed to sustain user interest. The average player count declined from approximately 4,500 in September to around 1,300 in October, signaling a disappointing trajectory for the once-promising title.
